ISTANBUL

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree Wednesday to allocate $1 million for humanitarian aid to Ukraine, designating the funds for the purchase and delivery of energy equipment.

The decree, which was shared by the Azerbaijani presidency in a statement, directs the Energy Ministry to acquire energy equipment produced in Azerbaijan and facilitate their shipment to Ukraine.

The funding will come from the president's reserve fund under the 2025 state budget, the statement said.

Azerbaijan previously provided humanitarian assistance to Ukraine numerous times in response to the situation in the country, it said.

It indicated that the two countries maintain diplomatic and economic relations based on various agreements, including the 2000 Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Partnership, as well as the 2022 Joint Declaration signed by the heads of state.

The Finance Ministry has been tasked with ensuring the allocation of funds, while the Cabinet of Ministers will oversee the execution of the decree, it added.
