Accident occurred due to arch in construction collapsing from about 9.1 meters (30 feet) high, trapping workers beneath, according to initial reports

ISTANBUL 

Nine workers were killed while five others were injured Tuesday during an accident at the North Chennai Thermal Power Station construction site in India's southernmost Tamil Nadu state, according to India Today.

The accident occurred due to an arch in construction that collapsed from about 9.1 meters (30 feet), which trapped several migrant workers underneath, according to initial reports.

Those who were injured were later taken to the hospital.

The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined, according to the Avadi Police Commissionerate.

Authorities are conducting rescue operations and have launched a probe into the incident.​​​​​​​
