Three foreigners were found dead in the Afghan capital Kabul hours after they were abducted, officials and local media confirmed on Thursday.
Hasmat Stanikzai, spokesman for the Afghan National Police in Kabul, informed Anadolu Agency the foreigners were kidnapped by unknown persons early morning from Dispatchhery, an area near the Hamid Karzai International Airport.
"We have recovered the dead bodies of these three foreigners from the Mosahi district [some 30 kilometers away from the site of abduction]. Our investigations are underway,” he said.
Local Tolo News reported one of the victims was an Indian, another was from Malaysia and the third from Macedonia.
Abduction of foreigners in particular is a recurring phenomenon in Afghanistan involving both militant factions as well as criminal syndicates.
Canadian Joshua Boyle and his pregnant American wife Caitlan Coleman were kidnapped by the Taliban while backpacking in Afghanistan in 2012. They were rescued by Pakistani troops in October 2017.
Two professors of the prestigious American University of Afghanistan, 60-year-old American Kevin King and 48-year-old Australian Tim Weeks still remain in Taliban custody since their kidnapping from Kabul in August 2016.
