Russia said on Tuesday that two Tu-95MS strategic bombers from the Aerospace Forces carried out a training flight over the neutral waters of the Sea of Japan.

The Defense Ministry said in a statement that Su-35 and Su-30SM fighter jets provided cover for the bombers throughout the more than 10-hour flight.

All jets flew in strict accordance with international airspace use regulations, it added.

"At certain stages of the route, strategic missile carriers were accompanied by fighters from foreign countries," the ministry said.

The ministry emphasized that Russian pilots regularly fly over neutral waters such as the Arctic, North Atlantic, Black Sea, Baltic Sea, and Pacific Ocean.

Tu-95MS strategic missile carrier bombers are part of the Russian Aerospace Forces' long-range aviation and the air component of the nuclear triad, which also includes submarines and intercontinental ballistic missiles.
