Two people were injured on Friday when a United Airlines plane flying to Cebu in the Philippines made an emergency landing in western Japan's Kansai airport after a fire alarm in the cargo compartment appeared in the cockpit.

The Boeing 737, which carried 141 passengers and crew, made the emergency landing at 7.08 pm (1008GMT), according to Kyodo News.

All passengers and crew were evacuated using emergency slides, and two female passengers were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It is unclear whether a fire occurred in the aircraft’s cargo compartment.

The airport initially closed both runways, but one of them was later reopened.
