BELGRADE
Serbian capital Belgrade's liberation from German occupation during World War II was celebrated on Sunday.

Serbia held a ceremony to celebrate Belgrade's liberation anniversary attended by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and several other officials from the Defense Ministry and the Serbian Army alongside officials from Russian, Ukrainian, Belarus and Azerbaijani embassies in Belgrade.

President Nikolic placed a wreath on the monument at the cemetery and signed the memorial book.

"If it had not been for you, Serbia would not have any children now," he wrote in the memorial book referring to the sacrifices of the ones who lost their lives in World War II.

Prime Minister Dacic said oblivion was the first step to lose freedom and added, "Therefore it is of crucial importance to preserve memories of those who lost their lives to liberate Belgrade."
