Suicide bombers killed 15 people on Sunday in Syria’s northern city of Aleppo, among them senior Al Qaeda operative Abu Khaled Al-Suri.

A spokesman for the Syrian Local Coordination Committee, Ahmed Muhammed Ali, told the Anadolu Agency that five Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) members raided Al-Suri's compound where two of them blew themselves up.

The chief editor of Shahba Press Agency in Aleppo, Mamun Abu Omar, confirmed that Al-Suri had died and blamed the ISIL for the attack.

Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri's representative in Syria, Al-Suri, took part in clashes in Iraq and Afghanistan for many years.

Then, he founded the Ahrar al-Sham group which has fought against Syrian President Bashar Assad.
