Co-owned by Turkish Armed Forces Pension Fund, Oyak, and French automotive giant, Renault, Oyak Renault first introduced its Fluence Z.E. concept electric version at Frankfurt Auto Show last year. The carmaker has already began manufacturing the electric car at its plant in the northwestern Turkish province of Bursa.
Renault Mais Director-General Ibrahim Aybar told the A.A during promotion of their new gearbox Efficien Dual Clutch (EDC) that France would be the first to try the electric car.
"Turkey has to wait for the necessary infrastructure works about building of charging stations. We proposed that electric cars should be supported with zero tax in the first five years," he said.
"We envisage sales of 30 thousand electric cars in Turkey in five years. In case of use of fuel for 30 thousand cars, Turkey has to import oil about 274 million USD in a decade. Manufacture of electric cars will also lead to an increase in investments and employment," he added.
Renault has been operating in Turkey for 40 years. Oyak Renault plant has built 15 different models so far, mostly in mid-size compact cars. Renault earlier said that it would make an additional investment of 110 million Euro in Oyak Renault plant in Bursa for Fluence model which is planned to be shipped to more than 80 countries.
