LATIN-ROCK SINGER CARLOS SANTANA IN ISTANBUL
ISTANBUL (A.A) - 06.07.2009 - Latin-rock singer Carlos Santana will give a concert in Istanbul.
Santana will appear on stage at Turkcell Kurucesme Arena on Monday.
Speaking to reporters at The Marmara Hotel, Santana defined Istanbul as "a city where many souls, who want to create a difference in this planet, show a collective willingness". He noted that it was difficult but not impossible to come together by preserving own identity.
Santana said that he was pleased to be one of the representatives of Woodstock Festival which was firstly held in 1969, and added that today he was happy to perform with many different groups.
Santana said that he wanted to perform in places like Iran, Pakistan, Jerusalem and Cuba. Santana added that he wanted to create a change in the U.S. by providing resources to education of youth besides performing his music in the rest of his life.
Upon a question whether he would like to work with Turkish musicians, Santana said that "he is open, his heart is open, and his door is open". Santana said that he came Istanbul to present his compliments, not to compete or compare.
Regarding the death of Michael Jackson, Santana said that Jackson was not only a perfect musician and dancer but also a person who wanted to make the world a better place.
Carlos Santana --born in 1947-- is a Mexican-born American Grammy Award-winning rock musician and guitarist. He became famous in the late 1960s and early 1970s with his band, Santana, which pioneered a blend of rock, salsa and jazz fusion.
"Supernatural" (1999) is considered as Carlos Santana's greatest work. It became the Album of the Year, received eleven Grammy awards, and sold over 25 million copies worldwide. It included such hits as "Smooth" and "Maria Maria".
