Former Bayern Munich chairman Uli Hoeness has begun his three-and-a-half year prison term after being convicted in March of evading €28.5 million in taxes.

Bavarian state prosecutor confirmed Monday that Hoeness was put in Landsberg Prison 81 days after his conviction.

On March 13, the former president of the European champion football club was found guilty of evading an estimated €28.5 million in taxes.

The 114-year-old Landsberg Prison, which is about 65 kilometers west of Munich, is renowned for being the place where a 35-year-old Adolf Hitler dictated his book Mein Kampf in 1924 during his jail term after being convicted of treason.
