MOSCOW

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Friday that he will meet with US President Donald Trump in Florida on Sunday to discuss a draft document aimed at ending the war, alongside security guarantees and an economic agreement.

"We have a broad agenda. It will be on the weekend. I think it will be Sunday, Florida, we will have a meeting with President Trump," Zelenskyy told reporters in Kyiv, as quoted by the state-run Ukrinform news agency.

The Ukrainian leader stated that the discussions would revolve around a multi-layered framework for peace.

"Next is an economic agreement; there are still basic developments there, although there will be several agreements and here we need to discuss the direction," he noted, adding that the meeting would specifically address "disagreements" regarding the management of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and territorial issues.

The planned meeting follows this week's diplomatic activity in Florida, where Ukrainian and US negotiators worked on a 20-point framework.

Zelenskyy previously indicated that while 90% of the draft is agreed upon, sensitive issues such as the establishment of demilitarized zones in eastern Ukraine remain under negotiation.

Earlier, the president said on Telegram that “a lot can be decided before the New Year."

“(Head of Ukraine’s Defense and Security Council) Rustem Umerov reported on his latest contacts with the American side. We are not losing a single day. We agreed to meet at the highest level — with President Trump — in the near future. A lot can be decided before the New Year,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, according to US media reports, the meeting will aim to finalize a US-brokered peace plan, signaling a positive development, after Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner announced "constructive" breakthroughs in secretive talks held over Christmas with both Ukrainian and Russian negotiators.

Axios claimed that the US and Europe are prepared to offer Ukraine security guarantees, modeled on NATO's Article 5, which would trigger a military response and sanctions in case of an attack against Ukraine.

While most elements are agreed, final hurdles remain, including the contested management of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, the report also claimed.
