WASHINGTON
The US State Department has approved a possible sale of Aegis Class Destroyer Support and related equipment to Japan, the Pentagon said Tuesday.
The estimated cost is $100.2 million, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement.
"The proposed sale will improve Japan’s capability to meet current and future threats by ensuring Japan Maritime Self Defense Force’s (JMSDF) Aegis fleet remains ready to provide critical capabilities in the defense of Japan," it said.
The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin, located in the state of New Jersey.
