US military building 'big complex' under White House ballroom: Trump
'It’s part of it; the ballroom essentially becomes a shed for what’s being built under,' says US president
WASHINGTON
US President Donald Trump said Sunday that the military is building a "big complex" under the White House ballroom.
"The military is building a massive complex under the ballroom, and that’s under construction, and we’re doing very well, so we’re ahead of schedule," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Washington, DC.
“It’s part of it; the ballroom essentially becomes a shed for what’s being built under,” he added.
Last year, Trump announced the construction of a 90,000-square-foot (8,361-square-meter) ballroom which is estimated to cost $400 million.
"We're ahead of schedule and under budget. All of the money is paid by myself and donors," he told reporters.
Trump said there is "not one dime" of government money going into the ballroom.
The ballroom will have "all bulletproof glass" and "drone-proof roofs, ceilings."
"Everything is drone-proof and bulletproof, and unfortunately, we’re living in an age where that’s a good thing," he added.
