DAVOS
Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu ruled out Thursday the possibility of the U.S. pressuring Turkey to better monitor the border with Syria.
In a session titled “Turkey’s Global Role” at the World Economic Forum at Davos, Davutoglu said: "The concept of a pressure is not an approach between allies. But there is a very close coordination between Turkey and the U.S. to fight against terrorism and find a political situation.”
"This coordination will continue because Turkey is the country who is paying for all the instability in Syria and Iraq because of the inability of the UN Security Council in Syrian crisis until now. Refugees are coming to Turkey, terrorism is a threat to Turkey. So the concept of pressure is not right. We have the right to put pressure on the international community,” he added.
However Davutoglu pointed out that the Syria crisis presented numerous facets, such as the refugee crisis or the spread of terrorist activities, which required coordinated efforts from the international community.
“Terrorism is a threat to all humanity. Nobody, no place is immune to terrorism. In Istanbul, there was an attack in Istanbul. In Paris we had terrible terrorist attacks. There is a need of global awareness regarding the refugee crisis as well as terrorism,” he said.
-‘One of the fastest growing economies in the world’
Davutoglu also said that Turkey would fulfill the conditions to grow steadily in upcoming years and to be ready for investors who want to seize the opportunities of one of fastest growing economies in the world.
"What we want to achieve in such difficult global economic conditions is sustainable economic growth. I am very proud to have 4 percent growth in third quarter of last year, which was a critical period for Turkey. And Turkey is now one of the fastest growing economies in the World.” Davutoglu said.
“We announced a very assertive reform agenda for one month, three months, six months, twelve months and four years. I had several meetings with international investors in Davos. I am happy to see that all investors want to invest in Turkey. Because they know Istanbul is rising, Turkey is rising when Africa, Europe, Asia are in decline,” he said.
