The US on Tuesday called on Russia and China to fulfill their international obligations but notably made no mention of Israel during a UN Security Council session on peaceful dispute resolution.

"In the past three months alone, we have seen US leadership deliver de-escalations between Israel and Iran, between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, and between India and Pakistan," US Charge d'Affaires ad interim Dorothy Shea told the council, praising the efforts under President Donald Trump's administration.

She argued that the US "played an important role in encouraging the parties to reach these resolutions, which we applaud and support."

"We call on all UN member states involved in disputes or conflicts to follow the example of those countries, and to make every effort to resolve their disputes and cease violence," she said.

Calling for a ceasefire in Ukraine, Shea urged Russia to "cease its attacks on civilians and fulfill its obligations under the charter."

Shea also called on China to comply with the 2016 arbitral ruling under the Law of the Sea Convention and criticized mechanisms that "are subject to bias against particular countries."

"It is critically important that institutions and structures aimed at facilitating the peaceful settlement of disputes operate with due regard for the state's sovereignty and the principles enshrined in the UN Charter," she added.

Unlike many countries participating in the Security Council session, Shea particularly refrained from addressing the situation in the Gaza Strip, while specifically pointing to Russia and China.

Her remarks also pointed to other UN member states to uphold their international obligations and pursue peaceful solutions, with no mention of Israel's ongoing bombing of civilians and starvation in Gaza.
