Trump's 100-day approval rating hits lowest point for any US president in 80 years
Economic concerns major factor in survey conducted by ABC News, Washington Post, and Ipsos, with 72% believing it is very or somewhat likely that Donald Trump's economic policies will cause short-term recession

ISTANBUL
Donald Trump has the lowest approval rating of any US president in the past 80 years, owing to significant public opposition to his policies and widespread economic concerns, including fears of a recession, according to a recent survey.
The joint survey, conducted by ABC News, the Washington Post, and Ipsos, revealed that 39% of respondents approve of Trump's handling of the presidency, a 6-point drop from February, while 55% disapprove.
The previous low in approval for a president at or near 100 days in office, in polls dating to 1945, was Trump's 42% in 2017, ABC News said in its report.
Economic concerns were a major factor in the survey results, with 72% believing it is very or somewhat likely that Trump's economic policies will cause a short-term recession.
Moreover, 73% said the economy is in poor condition, and 53% believe it has worsened since Trump took office. A decline in personal finances was reported by 41%, which is similar to the level reported during President Biden’s term last summer.
Despite Trump’s promises to control prices, 62% of respondents said inflation is still rising, and 71% blamed his tariffs for contributing to higher costs. Only 31% agreed with Trump’s claim that his policies will improve the economy in the long run.
The poll also revealed broader concerns about Trump's leadership style, with 58% saying they are concerned he will excessively shrink the government, 56% fearing he will exceed his presidential authority, and 55% believing he will fail to protect individual rights and freedoms.
Despite these concerns, Trump remains more trusted than congressional Democrats to address the nation’s most pressing issues.
When asked whom they trust more to handle major national problems, 37% chose Trump, compared with 30% for congressional Democrats. Another 30% said they do not trust either.
