WASHINGTON

The Trump administration has revoked the visas of six foreigners after they posted comments on social media that the State Department said "celebrated" the Sept. 10 assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the department announced Tuesday.

“The United States has no obligation to host foreigners who wish death on Americans,” the department said on the US social media company X’s platform, adding that “aliens who take advantage of America’s hospitality while celebrating the assassination of our citizens will be removed.”

The individuals -- from Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, Paraguay and South Africa -- were not identified.

In a post on X, the department shared screenshots of some of the foreigners’ comments and confirmed their visa cancellations.

The announcement came as President Donald Trump posthumously awarded Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, calling him a “great American hero” and a “martyr for freedom.”

Kirk, who would have turned 32 today, was fatally shot on Sept. 10 while addressing a group of students at Utah Valley University in the city of Orem, some 40 miles (64.4 kilometers) south of Salt Lake City.

A suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested shortly after the attack and remains in custody.
