Judge orders US to facilitate return of Venezuelans deported to El Salvador: Report
US District Judge James Boasberg says government must facilitate return of around 137 men, submit a plan within 2 weeks, according to Bloomberg News
WASHINGTON
A US judge ordered that the Trump administration must coordinate the return of several alleged Venezuelan gang members who were deported to a detention facility in El Salvador, Bloomberg News reported Monday.
US District Judge James Boasberg ruled that around 137 men deported in March to the Central American nation deserve to return to the US to contest in court how they were designated for removal without due process under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act.
Boasberg said the government must facilitate their return and submit a plan within two weeks, according to the report.
The men “should not have been removed in the manner that they were, with virtually no notice and no opportunity to contest the basis of their removal, in clear contravention of their due-process rights," he added.
The men were sent to a detention facility in El Salvador in March under the provisions of the Alien Enemies Act.
