Genocide institute condemns Israeli attacks on Gaza, accuses US of complicity in crime
Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention criticizes Western leaders for failing to prevent genocide, human rights violations, accusing them of facilitating Israel's actions
ISTANBUL
A US-based international organization dedicated to preventing grassroots genocide condemned Israel on Tuesday for committing genocide against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, accusing Washington of complicity in the crime and blaming the West for failing to put pressure on Tel Aviv to stop atrocities immediately.
The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention (LIGP) in a statement condemned Israel for committing genocide in Gaza. The US is complicit in the atrocity, it added.
"Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. These are not political statements but statements made from knowledge and experience," it said.
The institute emphasized that the genocidal dimensions of Israel’s actions are “evident,” calling for an immediate halt to the “carnage," citing the recent Israeli bombardment of a camp for displaced Palestinians in Rafah city, southern Gaza Strip.
The institute criticized Western leaders for failing to prevent genocide and human rights violations, accusing them of facilitating Israel's actions through material and diplomatic means.
"It is reprehensible and the individuals involved in this gaslighting campaign should be deeply ashamed," it added.
Meanwhile, highlighting the intolerable suffering of innocent children, mothers, and fathers in Gaza, UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine Francesca Albanese supported the institute’s statement on X.
"Those of us who cannot tolerate anymore Western hypocrisy refuse to belong to political systems that lie, beat up protesters, young students, and faculty members standing up against genocide," Albanese commented.
