Former FBI director subpoenaed in Trump’s 'grand conspiracy' probe: Report
James Comey subpoenaed in probe examining 2017 Russia assessment, Axios reports
WASHINGTON
Former FBI Director James Comey has been subpoenaed in a sweeping “grand conspiracy” investigation targeting officials involved in past probes of President Donald Trump, according to a report on Thursday.
The subpoena, issued last week, is part of an inquiry that has generated more than 130 subpoenas and focuses on former officials who served under Democratic administrations, Axios reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
Investigators are examining Comey’s role in drafting a 2017 intelligence assessment on Russian election interference that referenced the now-discredited Steele dossier, according to the report.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe has referred Comey and former CIA chief John Brennan for possible prosecution, IT said.
Officials targeted in the probe have dismissed it as politically motivated.
