Virus death toll continues to rise in Sudan, Oman

ISTANBUL

Sudan and Oman on Wednesday reported more deaths and new infections due to the coronavirus pandemic.


In a statement, the Sudanese Health Ministry said 13 fatalities and 135 additional cases were registered, bringing the country’s tally to 11,127, including 706 deaths.


The ministry said recoveries rose to 5,816 after 109 patients had recovered.


Also in Oman, the virus claimed 12 more lives, the health ministry said, adding that 1,060 cases and 1,314 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours.


The ministry said the total cases reached 71,547, including 349 deaths, and 47,922 recoveries.


The coronavirus pandemic has claimed nearly 617,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since it originated in China last December.


More than 14.9 million COVID-19 cases have been reported around the world so far, with recoveries exceeding 8.4 million, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University.
