The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) on Thursday distributed food aid to 500 poor families across Kenya.

The aid was handed over to 150 families in capital Nairobi, 250 in Kajiado town and 100 in Nakuru city.

The packages included five kilograms of rice, six kilograms of wheat flour, three liters of cooking oil, 10 kilograms of maize flour, tea leaves, salt, green grams and dates.

Sara Mohammed, a resident from Biafra, said her community is facing many challenges due to lack of a stable income.

"A program like this is helping us a lot. I am speaking on behalf of women because I have been involved in many activities with women."

The Turkish state-run agency has in the past donated tons of emergency food aid across Kenya to help starving communities.

Emre Yuksek, TIKA coordinator in Kenya, told Anadolu Agency: "We have been supporting food insecure and vulnerable communities in Ramadan with an inclusive approach targeting all faith and ethnic groups."
