Turkey attaches great importance to its relations with Lesotho, Turkish parliament’s speaker said on Tuesday.

Ismail Kahraman’s remarks came during his meeting with Lesotho's Foreign Minister Lesego Makgothi in Turkey’s capital Ankara.

"We should make effort to enhance our relations and strengthen our brotherhood," Kahraman said.

For his part, Makgothi said, both the countries will open their embassies in each other’s countries.

"To improve our relations, strengthen our brotherhood, and increase the cooperation, this initiative is very important," he said.

Lesotho, which went to the polls in June, has had a history of political instability, military coups and attempted coups.

Three years ago, the incumbent Prime Minister Thomas Thabane fled Lesotho to South Africa seeking protection because of fears that he was an assassination target.
