Kenya receives nearly 360,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine from Canada

NAIROBI, Kenya 

Kenya Thursday received nearly 360,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines from Canada, the country’s Health Ministry said.

In a statement, the ministry said: "Health Principal Secretary Susan Mochache Thursday morning received a consignment of additional 358,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from Canada under the Covax facility at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Canadian Ambassador to Kenya David Anthony Da Silva handed over the vaccines."

Mochache told reporters during the handing over ceremony that Kenya had received over 3.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines and expecting 4.6 million more doses that Kenya has purchased over the coming weeks.

She added the government has launched a crackdown on health facilities administering vaccines to Kenyans without authorization from the Health Ministry.

Over 1,018 people tested positive while 13 patients succumbed to the disease on Wednesday. The positivity rate in the East African country stands at 10.9%. Total confirmed positive cases are now 236,881, with 4,739 deaths.
