Former Trabzonspor football star Shota Arveladze has contracted the novel coronavirus, he announced on Wednesday.

"I tested positive for Covid 19. I’m currently isolating while waiting for a second test to confirm the results," Arveladze, 47, now a team manager, said on Instagram.

"I will keep you updated on how I’m doing. Thanks for your messages."

During his football career, Arveladze played for Turkish Black Sea team Trabzonspor (1993-1997), Dutch clubs Ajax Amsterdam and AZ Alkmaar, Scotland’s Glasgow Rangers, and Georgia's Dinamo Tbilisi.

He helped Ajax Amsterdam win the Dutch league in 1998.

His twin Archil Arveladze played for Trabzonspor as well.

Shota is a famed football figure in Turkey, as he managed several Turkish clubs such as Trabzonspor, Kayserispor, and Kasimpasa after his retirement from play in 2008.

Since 2017 he has coached Uzbek club Pakhtakor Tashkent.
