The US Federal Aviation System (FAA) on Monday gave six institutions, out of the 25 that applied, the authority to test and research drones for business purposes.
The FAA announced the six drone testing sites, chosen for their variety in weather conditions and geography, and are Virginia Polytechnic Institution, University of Alaska, North Dakota Department of Commerce, Texas A&M University, the Nevada State Management, and the New York Griffiss Airport Administration.
The drone testing will be used for more purposes besides military, such as improving the economy and creating more jobs.
Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, the American international electronic commerce company, announced he’s waiting for approval from the FAA to deliver packages weighing up to 2.3 kilograms (50 pounds) with unmanned air vehicles, also calleddrones.
Bezos said the use of unmanned air vehicles should be as natural as the use of trucks in the near future.
Drone testing on the chosen sites could create up to 70 thousand jobs within the first three years.
According to research by the aviation industry, universities are preparing for training programs fordrone testing staff and pilots, which would earn between $85 thousand and $115 thousand dollars.
