Turkey’s state-run aid agency opened a neonatal intensive care unit in a public hospital in Tijuana, Mexico.

In a statement, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) said the unit is among other equipment provided for Tijuana General Hospital where 8,500 births occur each year.

The agency stated that 450 of these births require intensive care.

Implementing around 2,000 activities annually through its 61 offices around the world, TIKA has completed thousands of projects in over 160 countries since 1992.

According to official figures, the agency has provided over $77 million in aid for health infrastructure across the globe in 2017.
