KABUL, Afghanistan
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for a suicide attack in Afghanistan’s central province Parwan that killed 13 people, including more than ten students, authorities said Tuesday.
Provincial police chief Colonel Mohammad Masoom Farzaee told journalists that a suicide bomber detonated his explosives in the Qalandar Khel area of Bagram district. He added that the attacker blew himself up at a time when U.S. troops were distributing stationery among school students.
He said 11 schoolchildren and two policemen were killed, and seven others wounded in the attack. The police chief said the suicide attack also inflicted casualties on foreign troops, but he had no exact figures. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, he said.
The International Security Assistance Force said in a statement that four of its service members died as a result of an enemy forces attack in eastern Afghanistan today. It did not reveal identity of the soldiers or the exact location of the incident but acknowledged that there were also civilian casualties.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, meanwhile, has claimed the group has killed 15 U.S. soldiers.
