Turkish Press Council has sent a request letter to Syrian leader Bashar Al-Assad for release of journalists who are under custody in Syria before the Feast of Sacrifice.
According to a written statement released from the council that at Wednesday's high commission meeting, it has been decided to write a letter to Assad asking him to free Turkish journalist Cuneyt Unal and Palestinian journalist Bashar Fehmi Qadumi who were taken into custody.
President of the press council, Orhan Birgit signed the letter which has been sent to Syrian Consulate General in Istanbul. The letter stated, "As you know, two journalists who went missing while working and now are under custody, have been in Syria for a while. We wish that experienced journalist Unal should spend his Feast of Sacrifice with his family, we ask that kindly. We hope that your return to us will be as soon as possible and positively."
Unal went missing on August 20 while working in Syria.
