Australians of Turkish descent are vying for becoming councillors in Melbourne.

MELBOURNE

Candidates usually prefer to contact voters face to face in the scope of introducing themselves so they can receive their votes.
Turkish descent candidates visit each house in their region and try to introduce themselves by visiting residents at electors' houses.
Samet Istar who is one of the candidates from the Aitken region for Hume Municipality told AA that he visits each house in order to reach electors with his friends. He told AA that he is a candidate from a Turkish based region, he sent letters to 26 thousand addresses and he added that he plans to visit 4 thousand residences personally to introduce himself.
Hume region of Melbourne is known as the area where people of Turkish descent mainly reside. Between Turkish candidates, Hume hosts the biggest race for elections.

Names of the Australian candidates of Turkish descent for a seat in city council in Melbourne are:

Hume Municipality: Samet Istar, Celal Sahin, Burhan Yigit, Adem Atmaca
Moreland Municipality: Ozturk Yildiz, Zeynep Yesilyurt, Halil Kaya
Melton Municipality: Petek Evren, Pinar Gumus
Stonningthon Municipality: Hilmi Aydogan, Fahrettin Elmas
Maribyrnong Municipality: Selcuk Sanli
Hobsons Bay Municipality: Sinem Doyran 
Wittlesea Municipality: Nazire Sayar 

Every municipality in Australia is formed by different electoral districts. The number of councillors from these districts is being sent to municipality varies. Every city council has different numbers of councillors however usually municipalities are managed by 10 of them. After the elections, councillors decide on their mayor and they also decide on the durations of mayor too. However mainly the mayorship is limited with one year.
Australians of Turkish descent have been elected mayors six times in the past decade. Current candidates of Burhan Yigit, Adem Atmaca and Ozturk Yildiz are former mayors. Results of elections are expected to be announced on October 27.
