Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the Iranian Embassy in Islamabad on Tuesday to “honor martyrs” and injured Iranians during a recent conflict with Israel, Radio Pakistan reported.
Sharif “expressed his deepest condolences to the people and Government of Iran, while reaffirming Pakistan's sympathy and solidarity with Iran during this difficult time.”
The Pakistani prime minister paid “rich tributes to the resilience and courage of the Iranian nation, while offering prayers for those who had embraced martyrdom,” and he also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s “consistent and continued” support for Iran, and extended good wishes and respects to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatullah Ali Khamenei and President Massoud Pezeshkian.
A conflict between Israel and Iran erupted June 13, when Tel Aviv launched airstrikes on Iranian military, nuclear and civilian sites, killing at least 935 people and leaving 5,332 others injured, according to the Iranian Health Ministry.
Tehran launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes, killing at least 29 people and wounding more than 3,400, according to figures released by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The US also bombed Iran’s Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear facilities in an escalation of the conflict.
The conflict ended under a US-sponsored ceasefire that took effect June 24.
