
ISTANBUL
The 6th largest purchasing power economy in the world consisting of an alliance of the four Pacific countries of Chile, Mexico, Peru and Colombia, held a meeting in Istanbul on Monday.
Ambassador Gabriel Duque Mindelberg, the World Trade Organization’s representative, spoke at ‘the Economy and Trade Integration and Global Access Platform: Opportunities for Turkey,” Pacific Alliance meeting. He stated that the four Pacific countries “attracted the fastest growing economy with around $71 billion of investment in 2012,” and they strive to integrate their economies and expand trade with Turkey with the recently opened promotional office in Istanbul.
The meeting was organized by Turkey's Economic Development Foundation and Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) and was attended by the Head of Economic Development Foundation Prof. Haluk Kabalioglu, Board Member of DEIK Tugrul Erkin, officials and academicians
Istanbul is the first promotional office of the alliance to be opened and is, "to be followed with a bureau in Morroco’s Casablanca," Mindelberg said.
The observer countries include Turkey, Portugal, Spain, France, Canada, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, South Korea, China, US, Panama and Costa Rica.
Panama and Costa Rica are candidates to become member countries. Also, Germany and UK have requested to become observer countries and their requests are pending resolution.
