A man suspected of killing a police officer and wounding another was detained in Russia’s Tver region, northwest of the capital Moscow, the Interior Ministry said on Thursday.

Irina Volk, spokeswoman for the ministry, said in a statement on Telegram that the detention came following a joint effort by police from Moscow and the Tver region in coordination with the Russian Guard Corps.

Volk also posted a video of the handcuffed suspect who called himself Vasily Buryakov. When asked in the video what he had been detained for, he says: "On suspicion of killing."

When asked whether he admits guilt, he said: "Yes, I think so," adding that he was hiding in forests.

The Russian Interior Ministry said on Sunday that a gunman shot dead a police officer and wounded another in Russia's Moscow region and fled the scene on a motorcycle.

The police officers were on duty and carrying out operational measures to detain a drug dealer, Volk said.
