Last moments of Asmaa, symbol of anti-coup resistance in Egypt

ANKARA (AA) - A footage emerged on Tuesday that shows Asmaa al-Beltagy just before her death, after she was shot by snipers in August 14 raid of Egypt's security forces on Rabaa al-Adawiya Square. The footage shows Asmaa in a state of suffering while still conscious in a field hospital within the square, as a youth tending to her says "serum is about to run out." Asmaa, 17-year-old daughter of Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed al-Beltagy, has been a strong symbol of anti-coup resistance in Egypt, with people within the country and around the world carrying her posters and chanting slogans on her martyrdom during anti-coup demonstrations. Asmaa's mother, Sena, had told the Anadolu Agency that her daughter's death had been the "gravest calamity" her family had experienced. "When I went to the field hospital, I encountered martyrs and people with heavy injuries. I went beside Asmaa, and saw her calm and resilient," she said. "I was wiping her face and telling her to be patient, while she was telling me she was alright. She wanted to comfort me. I left her in the operating room and went out. A few minutes later, I received news of her passing."
