A donation campaign by a Kuwaiti charity organization for war-torn Syria gathered over $9.4 million within three days.
The campaign was initiated by the Kuwaiti Relief Agency, in cooperation with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information.
It aimed at gathering donations to provide relief for over two million Syrian refugees who had fled the civil war in their country over the past three years.
The campaign came in response to a call made by Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad on the eve of last Wednesday's international donor conference which was held in Kuwait City. The international conference generated about $2.4 billion in pledges from donor countries.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, over 130,000people have been killed in the three-year conflict in Syria. More than two million Syrians have become refugees in the neighboring countries including Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq as well as Egypt, according to the UN.
