Interpol issues red bulletin for arrest of Iraqi vice-president
Interpol on Tuesday issued a red bulletin for the arrest of Iraqi Vice-President Tariq al-Hashimi.
On their web site, Interpol announced that the request for al-Hashimi's arrest came from Iraqi authorities for his alleged role in financing terror acts in Iraq and assisting terrorists.
The red bulletin implies that al-Hashimi would be arrested in any of the 190 member countries as soon as he is seen by police forces.
The red bulletin puts restrictions on al-Hashimi's ability to travel internationally.
Al-Hashemi was last seen in Turkey after going to Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Al-Hashemi has denied all charges against him calling the charges as "politically motivated". He has refused to return to trial in Baghdad, where he claims he will not get a fair hearing.
Al-Hashemi is a member of the Sunni-dominated Iraqiya political bloc, which won the most seats in the 2010 parliamentary election.
The Iraqi national government currently is mostly made up of Shiites.
