The Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) has aimed to help people in need in South Africa, Ethiopia and Swaziland during Ramadan.

Mehmet Gunduz, IHH South African coordinator, said that through the humanitarian assistance they are able to build a bridge between Muslims in other regions.

"We reached out to almost 1,500 families with the help of Turkish philanthropists, 1,000 of them in South Africa, and 500 in the Kingdom of Swaziland. In addition, we hold fast-breaking [iftar] ceremonies for 1,000 people. With this help, we aim to establish links between the Muslims of South Africa and the Kingdom of Swaziland," he said.

"We are making efforts to establish wells and give stitching courses to women. In the future we will also help people in the health sector by treating cataract patients," he added.

The IHH provided basic necessity materials to hundreds of orphans in Ethiopia, as part of the celebration of the month of Ramadan and the Orphan Solidarity Days.

The IHH team provided support to orphans and their families with livestock and stationary materials in the western Arsi and Silte regions of Ethiopia.

Ismail Songur, IHH East Africa Desk coordinator, said the team distributed stationary materials to 130 orphan students and enabled 420 families to comfortably fast during Ramadan by giving 40 kilograms of rations to each.

"We gave livestock to mothers of 16 orphan children in the region, who have agricultural land but couldn't manage to generate income from it," Songur said, explaining their activities related to Orphan Solidarity Days.

Songur underlined the aid activities would continue throughout Ramadan with the slogan of “Time to Share".

The IHH said it will remain active in 95 countries this year by distributing 300,000 foodstuffs. It will also hold fast-breaking ceremonies for 400,000 people.
