LONDON

Hundreds of passengers were stranded at airports across Europe on Sunday after British operators Flybmi ceased operations.

The company on Friday filed bankruptcy blaming uncertainties of Brexit and cancelled hundreds of flights.

It operated more than 600 flights to 25 destinations every week with its 376 employees.

The passengers were made aware of the cancellations via a text message, according to BBC.

The text message read: "URGENT: Important message for Flybmi customers. All flights are cancelled. Please go to www.flybmi.com for further details. Thank you."

The company said Saturday it was affected by the uncertainty created by Brexit but British government sources said there were lots of other reasons cited in the airline’s statement for its failure.
