The U.S. announced on Monday it would dispatch a team of investigators from the FBI to assist in investigation of a recent bombing at a rally in capital Addis Ababa.

A massive rally organized by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed last Saturday was hit by a deadly explosion which killed two people and left scores injured.

The U.S. pledge came as Under-secretary of Commerce Gilbert Kaplan met with Ethiopia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Workneh Gebeyehu in Addis Ababa.

In connection with the attack, more than 30 police officers including deputy commissioner of the city police have been detained and are now undergoing investigation for a security lapse.

After taking office in April, Ahmed released numerous political prisoners, promised to widen political space, and to hold free and democratic elections in two years’ time.
