Somalia’s foreign affairs minister welcomed Wednesday his Ethiopian and Eritrean counterparts for talks in the capital Mogadishu, local media reported.

Somalia’s Ahmed Isse Awad is expected to meet Ethiopia’s Workneh Gebeyehu and Eritrea’s Osman Saleh separately.

The ministerial visit by neighboring countries came ahead of official visits by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Eritrea’s President Isaias Afewerki to Mogadishu.

The details of the discussions and dates of visits are yet to be revealed.

Recently, the three foreign ministers met in Asmara, Eritrea's capital, after the leaders signed a tripartite cooperation agreement.
