CAIRO (AA) - Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa arrived in Cairo on Thursday for the first visit to Egypt by an Arab Gulf ruler since the ouster of elected President Mohamed Morsi three months ago.
Egyptian Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawi welcomed al-Khalifa at Cairo International Airport.
On Wednesday, the Egyptian presidency said the visit reflected the two countries' keenness to bolster bilateral relations and step up coordination on issues of common interest.
A 13-strong Bahraini delegation arrived in Cairo on Tuesday to prepare for the monarch's arrival and set his agenda for scheduled talks with Egyptian officials.
Bahrain was among the first Arab countries to welcome the Egyptian army's July 3 ouster of Morsi following massive and well-coordinated protests against his presidency.
