Azerbaijan’s Gabala city chosen as tourism capital

Azerbaijan’s Gabala city has been picked as the tourism capital for 2020 following a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)'s tourism ministers in Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, Azerbaijan Culture and Tourism Ministry announced on Tuesday.

The 10th Session of Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers (ICTM) began in Dhaka on Monday and would end on Wednesday.

The tourism ministers also decided that the 11th Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers Meeting would be held in Gabala in 2020.

The ICTM convenes once every two years to discuss tourism-related issues of Muslim communities and review recent developments in the domain of tourism in OIC member countries.

Gabala city, located 225 kilometers (140 miles) northwest of the capital Baku, is known for its historical sites and natural wonders.
