ISTANBUL
Japanese companies are promoting a new technology to restore barren farmland at the 30th annual UN climate change conference (COP30) held in Brazil.
As the 11-day-long conference is taking place in the city of Belem, the companies at the Japan Pavilion are promoting various technologies to combat global warming, NHK reported on Tuesday.
COP30 opened on Monday with the participation of various countries and international organizations.
The Japan Pavilion on Tuesday hosted a seminar on introducing a new technology to restore barren farmland and pastures with the use of fertilizer and other materials that improve the soil.
This method is expected to prevent unnecessary clearing of forests for agricultural purposes, according to public broadcaster NHK.
Nine Japanese firms are present at COP30 to showcase their latest technologies.
One exhibit demonstrated a material that can lower room temperatures by reflecting sunlight and dissipating heat.
Kijima Yuto of the Japanese company Spacecool said: "As global temperatures rise, all countries are facing the same problem of people feeling the heat. Demand for these cooling technologies will grow."
Another company showed a system that detects signs of wildfires using satellite data and ground-based sensors.
