LAGOS, Nigeria

Police comfirmed Tuesday five people were killed in a militia attack in northeastern Adamawa state.

“They were attacked late evening by some militia [in Bali village] along Numan Kpasham road,” said , police spokesman in Adamawa, Othman Abubakar, in a statement. “They quickly ran away after the heinous act and before the arrival of our men stationed at Bidoma outpost”.

The victims were traveling when members of the ethnic militia attacked, accusing them of wanting to attack their community, according to Abubakar.

Four others were injured and were taken to the hospital, he said,

He called for calm in the area and pledged a police crackdown on the attackers.
