IRBIL, Iraq
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants killed at least 21 people in clashes with armed groups linked to Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) in northeastern Syrian province of Al-Hasakah, the Kurdish party's leader said Thursday.
The clashes, which have been continuing for at least three days, killed 15 villagers and six members of People's Protection Unit -- the PYD's military wing -- in the city of Ras al-Ayn, Salih Muslim told AA correspondent in a phone interview.
The PYD is seeking to form an autonomous administration in the northern part of Syria.
Meanwhile, Turkey's pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party offered condolences to the families of the victims in a statement Thursday.
