ISTANBUL / ANKARA

The Trilateral Consultation Mechanism Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Türkiye, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia will be held on Saturday as part of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF).

According to the Foreign Ministry, the meeting will be attended by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, his Bosnian counterpart Elmedin Konakovic, and his Croatian counterpart Gordan Grlic Radman.

At the meeting, Fidan is expected to emphasize that Türkiye closely monitored the developments following the verdict regarding Milorad Dodik, the president of Republika Srpska—one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s two entities.

He is also anticipated to stress the importance of preserving Bosnia and Herzegovina’s territorial integrity, constitutional order, and sovereign state structure, which consists of two entities and three constituent peoples, based on the Dayton Peace Agreement.

Fidan is expected to stress that rising separatist actions in Republika Srpska are unacceptable and urge all groups to help ease tensions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He will also highlight the importance of Bosnia and Herzegovina-Croatia relations for regional peace and stability.

Türkiye-Bosnia and Herzegovina-Croatia Trilateral Consultation Mechanism Meeting of Foreign Ministers

Established in 2010, the consultation mechanism between the three countries aims to enhance cooperation in the Balkans by promoting regional solutions to regional issues, contributing to stability and regional development through concrete projects.

Within the framework of this mechanism, nine meetings have been held at the level of foreign ministers to date. The most recent meeting took place on June 29, 2024, hosted by Croatia as part of the Dubrovnik Forum.

Türkiye’s Efforts to Preserve Peace and Stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Türkiye is also the largest non-EU troop contributor to the EU peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, EUFOR Althea.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Denis Becirovic, the Bosniak member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency, in Istanbul on March 14.

After the meeting, the Presidency of Türkiye issued a statement reaffirming Türkiye’s support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and constitutional order.

President Erdogan also met with the President of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency and Serb member Zeljka Cvijanovic on March 22 in Istanbul and conveyed the necessary messages.

Additionally, Erdogan held phone conversations with Zeljko Komsic, the Croat member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Bakir Izetbegovic, the leader of the main Bosnian political party, the Party of Democratic Action.
