South Africa’s Turkish Film Festival opened on Friday evening with the screening of Sivas, a drama about a boy’s relationship with an injured Kangal sheepdog.
“We welcome the fact that we have this Turkish Film Festival,” Ebrahim Ismail Ebrahim, former deputy minister for international relations, told Anadolu Agency at the opening in capital Pretoria.
“By having this festival it strengthens the understanding between two countries and two nations. We have good relations with Turkey.”
Turkish Ambassador Kaan Esener said the festival aimed to promote Turkish culture.
“It is so different, it opened my eyes to a different part of Turkey,” local Tuma Magonmgoa said.
Other films to be screened include Once Upon A Time in Anatolia, Egg, Love Likes Coincidences and Yozgat Blues.
The festival is to be held in Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.
