Wuhan, the most populous city in central China and the capital of Hubei province, is now sister city with Turkey's Aegean Izmir Province.
According to a written statement by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Mayor of Izmir Aziz Kocaoglu and Wuhan's Mayor Tang Liangzhi signed a protocol on June 6 in Izmir.
Tang said that he was happy to be in Izmir and noted, "we have intensive relations since 2008. Signing the protocol on the sixth day of the sixth month is good because in our culture six is a very positive number. And I think that our relation will be very good because of this."
Tang underlined that Izmir was a well developed city and that they will share their knowledge in several fields with Izmir and take part in EXPO 2020, if Izmir would host it.
Kocaoglu said that it was a pleasure to be the sister city of Wuhan and thanked Tang on behalf of 4 million Izmir residents.
