Turkey's unemployment much lower than Eurozone: Turkish Economy Minister

ANKARA

Turkish Minister of Economy Zafer Caglayan praised the country's economy by saying, "the recent unemployement rate is much lower than the Eurozone average."

"We are happy to see that Turkey still has single-digit unemployment rates," Caglayan said while assessing the recent data shared by the Turkish Statistical Institute in his speech at the 2nd regional meeting of the Trade Attaches of Sub-Saharan Africa in Ankara.

Minister Caglayan reminded that the unemployement rate was 9.8 percent last August and the number of employed persons had increased by 593,000.

Noting that the recent data are much lower than the average of both Europe and the Eurozone, he added, "this shows the dynamism of the Turkish economy."

"We aim to get the unemployment rate down to 5-6 percent," Caglayan pointed out in stressing the importance of a new incentive system in creating employement.

He also noted that "one of the main goals of the new system is to manufacture imported products at home."
