Turkey's gross external debt reaches $367 billion in Q2

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's gross external debt reached 367.3 billion dollars at the end of the second quarter of 2013, with the net external debt valued at 217.1 billion dollars for the same quarter.

Referring to data released by the Undersecretariat of Turkey's Treasury, the share of private sector debt amounting to 252.3 billion dollars was recorded at 68.7 percent, and the share of public sector debt was recorded at 29.6 percent with 108.6 billion dollars. 

The remaining debt stock covers the external liabilities of the Central Bank of Turkey (CBRT) with 1.7 percent, corresponding to 6.4 billion dollars.

The external debt of the central government is 81.2 billion dollars as of the second quarter of 2013. The stock of bonds issued in international financial markets accounts for 52.4 billion dollars of this figure.

At the end of the first half of 2013, short term private sector external debt was 109.3 billion dollars, 70.6 billion dollars of which belonged to the banking sector.

The long term external debt of the private sector is 143 billion dollars as of the second quarter of 2013. 

The CBRT’s long term external debt is USD 5.4 billion while short term liabilities amounted to USD 0.9 billion as of the end of June 2013.
